He's certainly a man of few words, mostly because he often can't think of anything much to say. In this way, Satsuki is rather dull and unimaginative in most of his dealings, maintaining that he is a normal boy who simply wants to live out his carefree high school life and maybe get a girlfriend – or so he tells himself, anyway, which is pretty weird in and of itself. Most of his humor consists of saying implausible or teasing things whilst maintaining a straight face, and there is nothing he loves more than a gullible fool who will fall for it. This is mostly because he enjoys people's reactions. He's content to sit and watch other people bicker or banter back-and-forth like some kind of puppet show, which is why he tends to gravitate towards chatty and outgoing people. Sometimes Satsuki takes this as far as some kind of pitiful, downtrodden kitten act, in which he will trail after someone forlornly and hover on the edges of all their conversations until they let him join. It's a tactic that, so far, has worked reasonably well.

He's perceptive and good at identifying people's motivations, but has little patience for methods other than his own in many cases. Often, he will understand someone's actions but judge them for it nonetheless. He's also what girls like to describe as a "good listener", and is generally attentive.

Satsuki has an unwavering belief in the power of hard work, and often believes that diligence alone can reverse even the most unfortunate circumstances. Conveniently, he has industry in spades, and often accomplishes anything he sets his mind to. For things that he doesn't wish to set his mind to, he can be a little bit lazy — this usually means schoolwork. He's also a messy slob with a tendency to leave his stuff everywhere, and it's not uncommon for his things to wind up in other people's schoolbags.

Biography: 

He was born in Sapporo, the second of two children in a working-class family. His mother left his father for another man and moved to Tokyo very shortly after Satsuki was born, being a woman rather ill-suited for motherhood and loving freedom far too much to tolerate two babies tying her down.  Shortly after this, Satsuki's father moved with his two children back to his hometown of Furano. In an effort to keep Satsuki from thinking himself to blame, his father said instead that they separated when Satsuki was younger. His older sister was quick to enlighten him on the truth, being old enough to witness it but young enough not to know any better. He couldn't help but wonder if his birth was the unplanned burden that triggered his mother's departure, but usually he can't bear to even consider such a thing.  

His father and Hazuki took cheerful charge together over his upbringing; his childhood was a relatively happy and hands-off one, given that he was a placid baby and a relatively calm boy. By the time he got into middle school, he was thinking about his future in more serious terms; he disliked the idea of continuing to be a burden on his sister and father, who had worked hard to raise him, so he set his sights on a private school. It baffled them both, given that he never asked for much; but he nevertheless studied hard and passed the entrance exam.

Relationships: 


• Akifuji Hazuki: His older sister, who's attending the local public school unless I decide to make her an NPC, lol because she failed the entrance exam into Furano (to literally nobody's surprise). While excessively lazy and messy, she nevertheless fawns over her little brother, and is constantly putting him into a headlock while weeping about what a "good kid" he is. As hard as she tries to get him to call her Oneesama, he keeps addressing her as "aneki" like some kind of rough gangster. At home, she's very responsible for him, despite all pretense; they make dinner and play games together.


• Kirimori Shotaro: They've been friends ever since Satsuki asked to borrow paper every day for the first week of elementary school, ate his entire lunch, and proceeded to throw a mandarin orange at the back of one of Shotaro's bullies' head. (They both proceeded to get the shit kicked out of them, but the strongest manly friendships are formed with your faces shoved in the dirt.) Although he doesn't show it, he can be detrimentally protective, and mentions once in a while that Shotaro is "gentle" and "delicate, like a tissue".


• Sato Eiko: The hyperactive girl who sits next to him. She's good at languages, and likes to make it her business to correct his schoolwork, so he thinks Eiko's a Cool Sensei®. He will set himself on fire before he admits this. He still doesn't know what her actual name is, so he keeps cycling through words that sound like "Sato" (mostly Natto and Tomato, though).


• Watanabe Yoko: Yoko was his sister's best friend in junior high, and by chance they both ended up at Furano. One could assume they're acquainted, but this would be using the term loosely: every time Yoko came over, he stared at her in petrified, thirteen-year-old silence and communicated in nods and monosyllables. He found her emo punk phase simultaneously cool and extremely intimidating.

Additional Information:


• He leaves his tie undone like that because he doesn't know how to tie a tie. He pretends it's because it looks cool and dishevelled.
• He's part Ainu through his paternal line.
 
• His name is a bit girly, but he believes that if he acts mannish enough when he introduces himself he can somehow make it masculine again.
• He was named for the traditional month of May; his sister is named for the traditional month of August, their respective birth months. The kanji character for 皐, or "swamp" refers to the yearly flooding of rice fields, I THINK, don't quote me on that.
• If he can get away with it, he will try and wear running shoes to school SMACK HIM AND GIVE HIM A DETENTION
• He's a bit of a train otaku. He goes to online meetups, with other train otakus, and they ride trains. He keeps this a secret from everybody.
• The font for his handwriting is SentyMaruko Elementary
• I usually RP in script-style, going Name: [Action] Dialogue. I hope everybody is cool with that because whenever I write in paragraph style everything ends up really jumbled and terrible. (I can RP with any style though!)
