folklore AU Aurelia

So HOLY SHIT, it turns out I hadn't uploaded the Aurelia. Maybe I was tired? I dunno here it is on tumblr and here is my poor description

She comes in the night to cold marriage beds, to boys on  the brink of manhood, to pious men in monasteries. This is the succubus of popular myth. A female demon who materializes in dreams in order to seduce men, her end goal is to feed.  While this is harmless in small quantities, repeated sexual intercourse will eventually lead to deterioration of health and even death. Myths of sexy female leeches are as old as civilization, blending at times with the biblical myth of Lilith and that of female vampires — however, the myth as we know it originates from Medieval Europe alongside her spear counterpart, the incubus.

Medieval woodcuts depict the succubus as a beastly creature with voluptuous breasts and beastly body parts; this is at heart accurate, with some exaggeration. The succubi will at the very least have a pretty face, although her feet will often be that of a goat or the talons of a bird. A succubus with her claws out is not pretty, and one ought to pray that she stays sexy as long as she’s in your line of vision.

The powers of a succubi include dream walking, induced seduction, limited shapeshifting and typical demon regenerative abilities. Unlike in the fair folk, where bisexuality is the norm, same-sex (or zero-sex) tastes have a tendency to baffle and annoy sex demons, who will sometimes take it as a personal affront. Ironically, this means that homosexual and asexual individuals will find themselves safe from any harm, contrary to the wild claims of religious fundamentalists. The only time the succubus or incubus dabbles in same-sex affairs is to conceive children.

Hell is a bureaucracy, after all, and so succubi cater to every sort of taste. Not unlike an escort service, there are demons to fill every niche that men have a hankering for. Consequently, they are blessed with the ability to accurately predict any individual’s fetish, much to general amusement. An oft-used succubus opening line will be a coy twirling of the hair and a sultry, “Let me guess… you’ve got a thing for older women?”

Of course, as any succubus worth her salt will tell you, most men are not terribly picky about which attractive woman they are approached by. In the past, turf wars over humans were not unheard of in small villages without priests; dreams would provide the battlefield for succubi to fight it out, claws and teeth and red eyes. But this blessed lack of finickiness, human overpopulation, and a decline in religious values has ensured that the succubus is ever in supply.

“And who’s to say we’re evil?” one might question, grinning lecherously. “You ought to be thanking us, for giving people an outlet for their fantasies, no matter how evil or implausible. Prostitutes do it for money – but we do it for free.”
